The 2014 – 2015 financial year was our best year to date, with turnover reaching just under £2m, and we have continued to be busy supporting our clients across a wide range of projects. As we are now mid-way through our 2015-16 financial year, we felt that the time was right to look back and review some of the projects that we have been working on over the last year or so.
Over the past year, Zircon’s involvement with a client’s Braking System has increased substantially. Originally providing additional development resources, this has expanded to include project managing new product development, Technical consulting for the design and ongoing support and maintenance of the software. Whilst this embedded safety critical (EN50128 SIL2) real-time development was technically complex, the co-ordination with other client organisations located in England, Germany, Hungary and India presented a great challenge. Zircon were able to meet the challenge, actively driving workshops around the globe to ensure the project’s success.
In the financial sector, our engineers have continued to provide one of our longstanding clients with an ongoing bug fix and support service. As payment technology has progressed our clients system has required the provision of a contactless feature to ensure they can match the pace of their industry. In addition to this we have completed the design of a new application server.
Our engineers have been embedded in a number of different teams, working for one of our biggest clients. We have been assisting them in updating their signalling workstation product as part of a major rail upgrade program. In addition to this we have also been updating their technicians work facility by enhancing and developing new features for a multi-layered railway monitoring system.
One of the more sizable projects from last year required the development of a real-time data server that would collect data from a number of different sensors and display the results via a web based interface. Another element of the project involved the development of a database where the information form the sensors is stored and put through a series of customisable checks. We continue to support our client as they add new features and updates.
We have continued to provide support for a client’s CCTV system that we developed a number of years ago. A number of enhancements and minor bug fixes have been implemented to prepare the system for a new development.
We continue our work with another of our longstanding clients, providing enhancements to their track geometry system in order to support a variety of new requirements.
As you can see, we continue to work on a range of different projects encompassing a wide gamut of software engineering skills and technologies. However, no matter what the project, we still strive to retain the same levels of commitment to excellence and the flexibility to adapt to our clients evolving needs.
