As part of the MOT computerisation project undertaken by VOSA, a need for Handheld Devices (also known as Portable Devices) that enable MoT Testers to enter test data as an MoT test progresses, or trade personnel to access documents and data for reference purposes has been identified.
Handheld Devices are to be developed by independent hardware and software manufacturers. Prior to such devices being generally available to the market, each manufacturer is required to undertake a Type Approval Test.
Zircon Software Limited have been contracted to carry out Type Approval Testing for Handheld Devices on behalf of VOSA.
Developers wishing to develop Handheld Devices should contact Zircon (hhdsupport@zirconsoftware.co.uk) in order to be provided with the latest specifications that will enable them to develop their product.
Further information on the Type Approval Process and other related documentation is available here to registered developers.
The list of currently approved handheld devices is available here.
