BSI Audit Success

Once again Zircon Software has succesfully passed the regular BSI audit of the ISO 9001:2000(TickIT) accredited quality system with no nonconformities being identified.

Audit Success

Zircon was recently audited by one of our clients for design and development of safety critical software. Zircon successfully passed the audit with the auditor commenting:

"Zircon are capable of undertaking safety critical design work either on a time and materials basis or a fixed price contract. There is a competence and flexible approach within the organisation that would allow a close working relationship, joint planning and selection of appropriate design tools and a focus on safety requirements."

Zircon is looking for a Graduate Software Engineer to join our exisiting team of engineers. This position has now been filled.

Handheld Device Type Approval

Zircon has been awarded a contract by the Vehicle & Operator Services Agency (VOSA) to carry out Type Approval Testing of Handheld Devices that will be introduced as part of the enhancement of the MOT Computerisation project.

Performance Monitoring

Zircon has started work on an application to enable performance monitoring of the management of roads in the M25 sphere. Information will be retrieved from a variety of sources and collated to provide an indication of problems and improvements.

Round Trip Enigineering

Zircon has been awarded a contract to investigate the process of automatically generating test script code from UML designs. Zircon will also be examining the feasibility of taking existing test scripts and reverse engineering them to produce UML designs as part of a complete round trip engineering process.

Rail Contracts

Zircon is once again assisting a long standing client in upgrading its rail system products. In this instance, Zircon will be working on 3 separate projects 1. to carry out Verification & Validation activities on an upgrade to an exising product, 2. writing a data generation tool for the upgrade and 3. developing an application to manipulate timetable data.

Integrated Data for Regional Control Centres

Early 2007 has been a busy time for Zircon Software as we have received yet another order, this time to provide a web based application to provide an integrated traffic data display within the Regional Control Centres in England

Feasibility Investigations

Zircon has completed some investigation work for our client into the suitability of Voice over IP (VoIP) technologies for inclusion in a train radio network training simulator to allow train drivers to receive classroom training in the operation of the radio system.

Traffic Data Formatting Tool

Zircon is undertaking a development project to provide a software tool to take traffic flow data at individual measurement locations, where a location covers both directions at that point along the road, and reformat it for analysis in an Excel Spreadsheet.

Transport Innovations

Zircon succesfully exhibited at the Transport Innovations show at the NEC in early November. Several demonstration travel information applications were shown on the stand which generated interest from a number of organisations.

Kiosk for Northern Ireland

Following on from Zircon Software's work on the Highways Agency Information Point (HAIP) Zircon has developed a similar kisok application for the Northern Ireland Traffic Watch service.

Information is collected from the Northern Ireland UTMC (Urban Traffic Management & Control) Common Database and displayed on a touchscreen map based user interface.

Information to the Point

Brian Hunt successfully gave his presentation on Zircon's work on the Highways Agency Information Point (HAIP) at the ITS World Congress. Up to Requirements

Zircon is assisting our client in analysing and confirming the Requirements for a new sub-system to provide the next generation of rail control. Once the requirements have been fully analysed Zircon will be assisting in conducting System Architecture Design activities to define the system interfaces and provide evidence for the system safety case.

Zircon will also be helping generate the documents to be used in the tender process to select a system developer.

Zircon is now a corporate member of the Association for Project Management. Membership will provide Zircon project managers with access to the latest thinking in project management best practice and training, enabling us to provide consultancy services to reduce client risk and ensure development projects are delivered on time and to budget.

Winning Team

Zircon is pleased to announce the award of a Framework Contract from the DfT to Hyder Consulting for the provision of project support services to the Transport Direct project. Zircon is delighted to be included in the Hyder team to provide software engineering support services.

CCTV Certification Package

Zircon has successfully completed the development of a CCTV Certification application to allow CCTV equipment from a variety of manufacturers to be checked against new second generation Highways Agency standards.
