Zircon would like to thank all our guests who supported us at the IET Innovation Awards last night at The Brewery in London.  Whilst we didn’t scoop the grand prize, we were one of the 5 finalists in the transport category (out of  30 entries) and Zircon would like to congratulate the winners Antonov Automotive Technologies Ltd.

Brian Hunt, Zircon’s Managing Director, commented “It was a great night and I would like to thank the IET for its recognition of Zircon’s innovative 3D Train Graph product (more details).  It has been favourably received by many in the Rail Industry and we hope to see our efforts come to fruition in the coming months.”

Zircon has recently completed work for a client who is upgrading a railway in Norway.   A number of updates to the railway, including new interlockings, new signals and other equipment upgrades meant that both the software and the underlying data required updating.

Our engineer worked on our client’s site to support this upgrade project.   He was primarily responsible for creating an interface between our client’s control centre applications and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).

Zircon’s work on Automatic Train Regulation (ATR) recieves a mention on Railway-Technology.com – http://bit.ly/cfrTMg

The Singapore Mass Rapid Transit or MRT is a rapid transit system that forms the backbone of the railway system in Singapore, spanning the entire city-state.  The network has since grown rapidly as a result of Singapore’s aim of developing a comprehensive rail network as the main backbone of the public transport system in Singapore.

Part of the Metro is divided into the East/West Line and the North/South Line. To increase capacity on the North/South line, two new lines and a new platform have been added at Jurong station.  Before being put into revenue service, stagework modifications were required to both the East/West line and the North/South line signalling.

Zircon had been assisting our client with modifying the control system to support these stageworks.  The work has now been completed and was successfully commissioned in September without fault.

Scott Guthrie (Corporate Vice President in the Microsoft Developer Division) came to Birmingham and talked to about 200 developers. For six hours Scott talked about Visual Studio 2010, .NET 4, MVC 2, WebForms 4.0 and Silverlight 4.0. Look it was even filmed!

Spotting new technologies and obtaining immediate experience and knowledge of newly developed technologies, means that the Zircon development team can bring the latest and most pertinent technologies into client projects.

Another of Zircon’s engineers is now assisting a client in testing the installation of a new signalling control system on the London Underground.  Zircon engineers are helping our client test data used by the control system and are carrying out functional testing of the system as it is installed.
